Text: Imperialism in Africa.

"Africa has no history… Africa matters to the universe. […] This wild Africa has only two aspects: inhabited, it is barbarism; deserted, it is savagery… This world that scared the Romans attracts the French…. Take it… From whom? No one. Take it from God. God gives the earth to men. God offers Africa to Europe. Take it not for the gun, but for the plough; not for the sword; but for commerce; not for the battle, but for the industry; not for the conquest, but for the fraternity. Pour out you excesses into this Africa and solve your social problems, transform your workers into owners. Go ahead!"
Victor Hugo, 18 of May of 1879
