Activity: American revolution, working with historical sources.

Look at the picture and answer the questions:

1.-. Describe what the Paul Revere's gravure represents. Pay attention to foreground and background.

Read the following texts, reflect and answer the questions below:

TEXT A
“The Boston Massacre was a street fight that occurred on March 5, 1770, between a "patriot" mob, throwing snowballs, stones, and sticks, and a squad of British soldiers. Several colonists were killed and this led to a campaign by speech-writers to rouse the ire of the citizenry”
(From UShistory.org)

Text B
“I saw the People throw snowballs at the soldiers and saw a stick about 3 feet long strike a soldier upon the right. He sallied and then fired. A little time a second.”
(Deposition of Theodore Bliss)

1.-. Which one is a primary source? Why?

2.-. Have you observed any difference between both text? Which ones?

3.-. The three sources explained with the same event of the American Revolution: the Boston Massacre. Comparing the information of both text and the gravure, do you think the representation of Paul Revere is an accurate representation of the events? Why?

4.-. Why do you think he represented it in that way?
